Reuben's last land sale in Noble Twp., Shelby Co., Indiana was October,1879. He was presumed dead (no Shelby Co. probate records), and the financial affairs of his wife, Margaret Jane Champ, were handled by their son-in-law, Daniel Hendrickson. However, a Reuben Mitchell (67, farm laborer, b. NC, fb. VA, mb. VA) is in the Worthville Pct., Carroll Co.,Kentucky, census of 1880 (ED26,p.65). This fits what is known of Reuben, 7th son of William & Lucy. This Reuben was living in 1880 near the families of his two brothers, George W. and Joseph, who had stayed in what is now Carroll Co. when the other 8 Mitchell siblings moved north to Shelby Co., Indiana. With Reuben in 1880 are three children -- Silas (age 11), Ellen (age 9), and Reuben ( age5), all b. IN of fb. NC and mb. KY. Reuben may have had a second family.
