W. O. Smithenry, Retired Shell Man, Dies at 72 - Funeral services for W. O. Smithenry, 72, of Hartford, a retired employee of Shell Oil Co., were conducted Tuesday morning at Marks Mortuary here, after which the body was taken to O'Fallon, MO, for burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Smithenry died Sunday at Wood River Township Hospital where he had been a patient for four days. He had been a resident of Hartford for more than 25 years. He was a native of Newton, IL. He had been retired from his work as a trackman at Shell Oil Co. since he was 65 years old. Survivors are his wife; two sons Marion Blankenship of East Alton and Casper of O'Fallon, MO.; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Leeke and Mrs. Myrtle Smith of Indianapolis; two step-daughters Mrs. C. D. Caldwell and Mrs. John Norton of Hartford; two brothers John of Waterloo, IA, and Joseph of Newton, IL; two sisters, Mrs. M. D. Lofton of Waterloo and Mrs. Lola Bottoms, a resident of Canada. He also survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
