Notes for Baruch William (Peter) PRATHER

Broderbund WFT vol 4 edition tree #2999 Date of import Aug l5,l998
Son of Aron Prather Mary Jane

Baruch served in the Revolutionary War as a Sargent 5th company Lowe Battalion Mongomery County , Maryland under Col. John Murdock. Her returned Jul l5,l780.

He died in Testate (he made and left a will). The court ordered three men to appraise his estate. (Ref Will book B. l809 Fayette County, Kentucky.) The estate consisted of 526 pounds, 11 shillings and 4 pence.

When Baruch's wife Sarah died, the court had her estate appraised, resulting as follows: Slav e consisting on one negro woman Nell about 30 yrs old, Milley and a boy child, Young.
Ester 80yrs old worst than nothing
Boy Aaron 11/12yrs. old and George 6 yrs.

Baruch bought l66 acres of Henry Bell's 3000 acre military warrant in l804, Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky (Spears, Jessamine County, Kentucky). This became known a "The home place " , It was late sold to Baruch's son, Thomas and then in 1859 to his son Thomas. It is now ( 1991) owned by Fayette County and is used a a nature perserve/park where nature walks are held by local schools. The old plantation home still stands, but is in need of much repair. Fayette County has future plans to restore the home. Today 1992 its porch is missing, but the red brick walls remain. The kitchen was added to the structure sometime after Baruch died . The house is much like another Prather/Prater plantation home which was built about two years earlier in Lenior City, Tennessee by Benjamin Franklin Prater/Prather. This house is in complete restoration and is one of the most beautiful for the period. It was built in 1797 and has its large white columns, porch and the same red brick. Its odd to see how the two homes resemble each other. Could they have been build by the same builder.?

Baurch moved form Maryland to Kentucky, circa 1812. He settled at Jack's Creek Pike (about 6 miles from Lexington Kentucky). I attended their family reunion in 199l and was given a tour of the old estate and home.
