Don T. Mitchell, Mitchell Family History, (Five Generations of a Mitchell Family, published in 1987).
In the Nebraska state census of June 1885, the only Mitchell family in Burt Co. resides in the village of Oakland. It comprises:
MITCHELL, Wm. (52, carpenter, no birthplaces listed),
Laura (39, b. IN,fb. KY, mb. NC),
Harry (12, b. IN, fb. --, mb. IN),
Lillie May (10, b. IN, fb. --, mb. IN),
BLACK, Edgar (6, b. IN, fb. IN, mb. IN),
MITCHELL,Bertie (6/12, female, b. Dec 1884, b. NE, fb. --, mb. IN)
Also in Silver Creek Precinct of Burt Co., there is:

The above is a combination of two transcriptions of this record. The presence of Edgar Black in his widowed mother's 1880 record (Wildcat Twp., Tipton Co., Indiana) and here shows that this is the family of William Smith Mitchell who was known to have died in Burt Co., Nebraska before the settlement of his father's estate on 26 Oct 1886 in Shelby Co., Indiana.
