Notes for William PRATER
The Following notes by Gary Benton Prather :
The name Prather dates from the Roman Occupation of Britain. The judge and magistrate of a city or of a number of small settlements in a district which could use the name Praetor. In Latin this name was pronounced Pra'ytr'a. There must have been many Praetors in those 500 years of Roman Rule, and they were not related in family.
The estates descended to him stating that his Manorial Estates was Eaton Water in North Wiltshire (now Eaton Hastings). This man is descended from Guilliumus (Williamus) Johonnie (John ) Prater. We do know that our Grand-father married the daughter of Brockwell Yscithoer, "The Prince of Powys" for which the 3 silver Wolf Heads in our Coat-of-Arms indicate. Also another daughter married a Delamare, from which we received "Nunney Castle".
