Notes for Gilbert De Umfreville III Earl Of ANGUS
Gilbert de Umfreville, 10th Earl of Angus was the son of Robert de Umfreville, 9th Earl of Angus and Lucy de Kyme.[1] He was born circa 1310.[1] He married, firstly, Joan de Willoughby, daughter of Robert de Willoughby, 1st Lord Willoughby and Margaret Deincourt.[1] He married, secondly, Maud Lucy, daughter of Sir Thomas Lucy, 2nd Baron Lucy of Cockermouth and Margaret Multon, before October 1369.[1] He died on 6 January 1380/81, without surviving issue.[1]
He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Umfreville [E., 1295] in March 1325.[1] He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Angus [E., 1283] in March 1325.[1] He succeeded to the title of 10th Earl of Angus [S., c. 1115] in March 1325.[1] In 1332 he was one of the disinherited barons who invaded Scotland.[1] He fought in the Battle of Dupplin Muir on 11 August 1332, where he assisted in the victory of Edward Balliol.[1] He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Kyme in 1338.[2] He fought in the Battle of Nevill's Cross on 17 October 1346, where he was one of the commanders.[1] He held the office of a Warden of the Marches on 28 May 1352.[1] He held the office of a Commissioner on 18 June 1354.[1]
On his death, none of the legitimate heirs of his grandfather, 8th Earl of Angus, where summoned under his titles.[3]
