Notes for Mary ROWLAND
Mary's parentage has not yet been proven, however of the Rowland brothers in Kentucky, George was in Franklin co KY (where Mary and John Tandy were married after 1792 (5). The other brother David Rowland junior, was not in Franklin co and also had a daughter Mary known to have married Reason Ricketts (5). Therefore George was most likely her father.
9 Dec 1797 she was named in a deed with her husband John Tandy, when they sold some land in Fayette county KY to Moses Bledsoe (6).
John Tandy made his will in late 1816, and left his fattening Hogs and crop to her and was mindful that she received her third of the estate (2). Inventory of her husband's estate 28 Jan 1817 showed a sizeable estate totalling $3085.70 (2-p403). In Jan 1817 Mary appeared in court and relinquished her right to some of the property bequeathed to her in John Tandy's will (7)(8-p364). Mary and her sons attended the estate sale in July 1817 (2). Mary was listed as head of household in the 1820 census in Gallatin county Ky, her husband having died since the last census (1). She also seems to have continued to run the Tandy farm. 23 Jan 1817 she was involved in a land transactions with her husband's estate (3). She also was listed as paying taxes 1820,1821,1822,1823,1824 and 1825 and consistently listed 1 black slave and 1 horse (4). Since she ceased to pay taxes after 1826, that may be the year that she died.
